National Transport Authority: Smarter Travel Reboot

By |2019-05-13T08:59:46+00:00December 12th, 2018|Blog|

We have recently been working with the National Transport Authority on their Smarter Travel Workplaces and Campus programmes, challenging staff and students from partners of the Smarter Travel Workplaces and Campus programmes to ‘Reboot Their Commute’ and take part in their inaugural Commuter Challenge. Participants are encouraged to choose healthier and smarter modes of transport for their commute to and from work or college, and they would be in with a chance to win some great prizes along the way!

What is Visual Communications?

By |2019-05-09T16:15:09+00:00August 25th, 2015|Blog|

Think about

What do you need to do to find new customers for your business?

Do you need to stand out from your competitors, or is it just getting noticed?

Do customers really understand what you can do for them, or are they just hard to reach?

Whatever you need to do, visual communications can help you to do it.

Raise your profile

Whether you’re a start up taking your first step, or an established business moving into a new market, you need to let customers know you exist. There are lots of ways to do that. We work with clients to understand what’s best for them and their budget.

Stand out

In a competitive market place you need to be first choice. You need to give customers a reason to choose you. We work with our clients to understand what makes them different. Then we look for the best ways to visually tell other people.

Communicate clearly

New Customers need to know the benefit of what you’re offering before they’ll buy. If you’ve got a new way of doing things, you need to explain why that’s better quickly and simply. We will give you the tools to tell your story.

Reach your target market

If you’re offering a niche product or a specialist service it can be hard to reach your customers.

We help clients to identify just who their customer is, so we can use the right tools, and the right channels, to reach them.

Liberties Visitor Guide & Map

By |2016-11-02T16:14:55+00:00August 7th, 2015|Blog|

One of our recent projects was designing and illustrating The Liberties Map & Visitor guide for Dublin City Council & Liberties Dublin.

The Liberties is a city neighbourhood rich in heritage, this historic city quarter sits side by side with dynamic media and tech hubs and highly-respected medical and education centres. This is an area of vibrant community, iconic brands, evocative placenames, creative energy and engaging architecture, this is where Old Dublin meets New Dublin!

We wanted to capture this using contemporary imagery yet have a retro feel we enjoyed working on this and are busy working away on the next map & visitor guide in this series for Dublin City Council.

We were delighted to create this motion graphics promotional video for Idan and Fadl to promote the Play BASSAM and wish them continued success.

Bassam is a powerful drama based on the true story of Bassam Aramin, co-founder of the Israeli-Palestinian peace movement Combatants for Peace. Originally programmed for a leading theatre festival in Tel Aviv-Jaffa in 2008, Bassam has since been translated from Hebrew to German, Italian, English and Arabic. Written by Sligo based Israeli Director, Idan Meir, and performed by Donegal based Palestinian Actor, Fadl Mustapha, Bassam gives an authentic perspective on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Strong industry focus is important at LYIT

By |2016-11-02T16:14:55+00:00January 20th, 2015|Blog|

Career by Design

LYIT continues to collaborate between industry and academic learning and this year is no exception. Over 50% of all LYIT CAO courses include work placement giving students valuable hands-on experience.

In addition to this, the college regularly invites industry leaders to speak to students and to share relevant tips and offer insights on future careers across the Schools of Business, Engineering, Tourism and Science.

Recently, Fiona O’Reilly, On the Dot Design, returned to LYIT to talk to Year 1 Design students about her passion for good design, what makes it effective and to tell her story.

Fiona has spent 15 years in the design industry in Dublin, New York and Sydney in various creative and business roles. She returned to Donegal to study a BA Honours in Visual Communication at LYIT and followed it with a Masters in Motion Graphics both with distinctions.

“Whist I had much experience in the industry I wanted to add to my qualifications and spend time on creative thinking and update my skills. I was able to do that while doing work that I love” says Fiona.

Fiona graduated from LYIT with a First Class MA in Motion Graphics and set up On the Dot to offer a complete visual communication consultancy for clients. It was a life long ambition of mine to set up my own business and the MA give me another qualification in a growing sector to complete my offering.

Speaking about her return to college as a mature student, Fiona says, “LYIT is a great college, that is very welcoming to mature students like me. The staff and facilities are excellent and there’s a great atmosphere on campus. The Masters has given me the skills and confidence to add this niche area to the services On the Dot provide and start a new exciting stage of my life”.

Obviously very passionate about her career Fiona explains, “Motion graphics combines animation, illustration, photography, video, typography, graphic design and audio together on a timeline in order to create visual communication which changes over time, connecting with the audience on several levels to get a message across. It helps to convey information in an appealing, entertaining, and exciting way through new media culture using evolving digital technology. It’s an innovative industry with huge growth potential for those with talent and drive”. On the Dot will be taking on a LYIT Year 3 Design student for 3 months work placement this year.

On the Dot, offers a complete communication package, combining traditional print and branding services with the latest in visual communications for the new media culture. Some of the services provided are branding, design for print web and digital media, presentations, publishing and advertising. “I love what I do, it changes every day and there is tremendous satisfaction in having your own business. Whilst I’m based in Letterkenny I have clients across the country and luckily still in New York”. Visit onthedot.ie to see some of Fiona’s work.

“We’re always delighted to welcome our graduates back to LYIT, says Nollaig Crombie Lecturer in Design, The students get to hear first hand from people working in many interesting areas and also get a true indication of the scope of careers which their study will lead to. Fiona’s talk was highly informative and inspirational and also gave the students an idea what it’s like to set up your own business.

This month we are busy working away designing  the promotional material for an upcoming exhibition in The Highlanes Gallery.

The imagery supplied by artist Janet Mullarney is fantastic and is visually a dream to work with. We are looking forward to the exhibition opening in the coming week and can not wait to start work designing the book in February, so keep an eye out for that in the coming months.

Consilium Education

By |2016-11-02T16:14:55+00:00January 20th, 2015|Blog|

Fiona has worked with us since July 2014 to design the branding and logo for our company Consilium Education. Fiona met with us regularly over the last six months and she has always been very professional while actively listening to us, offering advice and discussing various design and colour options. She presented us with a full range of designs and we were delighted with the logo and all the associated branding. It is very personal to us and says exactly what we wanted to convey to the public about the company.

I feel this is only achievable when the relationship between the designer and client is compatible and everyone is on the same wavelength. Fiona was always a pleasure to spend time with and the whole experience of branding our company was stress free and enjoyable

No nonsense, no fuss, just great design says it all about Fiona’s company On the Dot.

We are now continuing our working relationship with Fiona as our company moves forward into the next phase of its development.

I would highly recommend Fiona for any design project. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if I can provide any further information.
